My ‘Still Life’ range of tableware takes its inspiration from the painting and applied arts of the mid 20th century. I make each piece by hand, either by throwing on the potter’s wheel or moulding from slabs of clay. The proportions of the forms, their generous walls and gentle curves, are carefully considered to evoke their modernist inspiration, while the details of articulated handles and the tiny lips of the jugs make the styling distinctly contemporary. The decorations are simple, brushy stripes or circles of smoke-greys, slate-greys and taupe-greys, synchronised with darker and bolder trailed lines and squiggles, a palette which allows any pot to sit alongside any other This is a range of modest, modern-looking domestic pottery, reasonably priced for everyday use, and equally at home in urban or country interiors. |
